Clothing in India varies from region to region depending on the ethnicity, geography, climate and cultural traditions of the people of that region. India's recorded history of clothing goes back to the 5th millennium BC in the Indus Valley Civilisation where cotton was spun, woven and dyed. A variety of weaving techniques were employed in ancient India,In general, weaving involves using a loom to interlace two sets of threads at right angles to each other: the warp which runs longitudinally and the weft (older woof) that crosses it. One warp thread is called an end and one weft thread is called a pick. The warp threads are held taut and in parallel to each other, typically in a loom. There are many types of looms.[5]  All this and more to learn from text book.  It is a 38 million people industry in India.  To reinforce this information and to ensure students understand this better, Pragathi went on a trip to Pochampalli, Textile Park for an hands on experience about weaving and weavers.

How to make my child read text book?

Tips to Parents

Parents are informed that the teachers are explaining the lesson in small parts. Dates are mentioned in the textbooks to show how much is explained per day. The children must revise the same part explained each day (even if it is not mentioned in the diary) by following the instructions given below. In case of doubts, the child should get the same clarified the next day. Make the child get a general idea of what the reading is about.

Parents are informed that the teachers have introduced mind maps, flow charts and different other illustrations to make learning easy for children.

We at school find that children are gradually getting habituated to reading textbooks.

1.     The child should:

• Read the introduction, headings and subheadings.
• Read paragraphs that summarize the content.
• Look at any illustrations/diagrams, graphs, maps, charts and read the captions.

Then the child should:

2. Look up in a dictionary any words that are unfamiliar
3. Once the reading is done, let the child pretend that he is teaching somebody about the material he has just read.
4. Allow the child to explain out loud and in his/her own words what the reading was about

5.     To learn the boldfaced or italicized terms

6.     Try to frame as many questions as possible in each paragraph and locate the answers by highlighting.

Pragathi Central School - Circular - Change regarding Formative Assessment - Reg

Dear Parent,

This is to inform you that the Formative Assessment –III which is scheduled to take place by First week of December will be conducted as follows:

Grades – I & II               ->   20 marks          -> 40 minutes

Grades – III, IV & V        ->  40 marks           -> One hour, 30 minutes

Grades – VI, VII & VIII    -> 60 marks            -> Two hours

This change is to enable children develop seriousness, time management and concentration during lengthy assessments.

The syllabus, marks break-up (question-wise) and model/pattern of the paper will be issued to the students 10 days ahead of the exam.

Students are being trained to prepare from textbooks for exams.

 A session will be conducted for parents of students studying Grades III, IV & V (CBSE) on ‘How to make children read and revise from textbooks’. The parent who is closely monitoring the child’s homework will benefit by attending this session on 07/11/2013 at 2:00pm in the Auditorium.

SIMO (South India Math Olympiad) in Pragathi

SIMO Education founded by IIT Madras Alumni, is a Hyderabad based company working in Education domain. SIMO Education is an amalgamation of deeply passionate IIT and IIM Alumni network, working for promotion of basic sciences and education in India.

Prodigies in Pragathi get to show off their brainy side this Sunday (10-Nov-2013).  SIMO is conducting ranges of exams across South India. Exams conducted are as below :
1) SIMO             ----->    09.00 am to 10.30 am
2) SIBO / SISO ----->    10.30 am to 12.00pm

3) SIPHO          ----->   12.30 pm to 02.00 pm
4) SICHO         ----->    02.00 pm to 03.30 pm

Nature Walk

Children of grade 2 went on a nature walk to study the different types of plants.  A hands-on about mother nature which is always better than only bookish knowledge.

Yellow Day

Yellow day with Pre primary children was like a walk in a sunflower garden.  Every child had an idea to show, every child dressed in yellow looking like a garden of tulips surrounded with little honey bees .  Just watching various shades of yellow was like watching sun rise on a beach.  We painted yellow, learnt about yellow fruits and flowers. Whats more!!!!! we ate yellow (corn cobs).  It was a day of shine and color filled with golden shades.

A Day Outing to Ramoji Film City Children’s Carnival is planned on this day (14thNovember, 2013) for classes III, IV & V.

Dear Parent,

14^th November, 2013 is declared holiday for school on account of Moharram.   A Day Outing to Ramoji Film City Children’s Carnival is planned on this day (14^thNovember, 2013) for classes III, IV & V. These trips make for outdoor experiences that are enriching, fun and great learning for everyone. Teachers from school will accompany the students.  An amount of Rs.600/- is to be paid to the respective class teachers on or before 11^th November, 2013. Lunch and snacks will be provided by Ramoji Film City. Children may have breakfast or carry the same along with water bottles. Children will be brought back to school by 7:00pm.

Students to report by 7:00am. Buses will leave before 7:15am.

We have requested for early confirmations & payment to be able to plan the logistics.  This trip is not compulsory. Interested parents may contact Mr. Srinivas, Incharge, on 9985251446.

TEAM PRAGATHI WISHES ONE AND ALL A SAFE & HAPPY DIWALI!!!

Dear Parent,

Team Pragathi has been making conscious efforts in educating children to become socially, morally, economically and environmentally responsible.

Now, with Diwali just around the corner, there’s a lot of excitement in the air! Children for sure do look forward to bursting crackers. However, Pragathi feels greatly responsible in moulding children to become environmentally responsible. Nevertheless, there could be some kids who might feel that Diwali without crackers is dull and boring. Though bursting or not bursting crackers is one’s choice, our appeal is to ask them to go for eco-friendly crackers. Children who completely refrain from bursting crackers will be awarded with certificates as well. Parents need to fill up the format given below and hand it over to the respective class teachers.

Tomorrow students will be given two/three flyers each to distribute to their friends, neighbours or relatives to campaign for the same.

We request parents to accompany the kids on this project. Please do not allow kids to go alone.

Experience an explosion of joy without crackers. Let’s protect the environment.

Say ‘No’ to Crackers. If unable to resist, go for eco-friendly Crackers…

TIPS TO CELEBRATE A SAFE DIWALI

Our primary instruction is to AVOID CRACKERS. BUT if unavoidable please use eco-friendly ones and maintain the following precautions:

Do's 

·            Burst crackers in large open spaces only.

·            Use crackers of low noise level only from a reputed brand.

·          Children should always burst crackers under the supervision of adults.

·          Use protective glasses while handling any type of fireworks.

·          Wear tight cotton clothes while bursting crackers.

·          Put cotton in ears to avoid noise pollution.

·         Persons with breathing problem should stay indoors with windows and doors closed.

·         Do keep some distance while bursting crackers.

·         Always keep a bucket of water and sand bags ready near the place where you are   bursting crackers.

·         Footwear is compulsory while handling fireworks.

In case of any burn injury

·         Put potato slices or egg-white on the burnt area for immediate relief.

·         Wash the burnt area immediately with fresh water and cool with ice packs or cold water for at least 20minutes.

·         Apply antiseptic powder or cream.

·         Cover the area with clean sheet or towel.

Don’ts

·         Don’t prick blisters.

·         Never burn crackers near rubble or anything inflammable.

·         Bombs should not be set on fire while holding in hands.

·         Don’t remove pieces of burnt flesh or dead tissue.

·         Don’t apply ghee, haldi, atta or toothpaste.

·         Never burst crackers after 10PM or near a hospital/vehicle.

·         Do not burst crackers on staircases or near any entry or exit point

·         Keep away from trees and electric wires while bursting crackers

·         Avoid eating sweets made of khoya/mewa

DO NOT APPLY ANTIBIOTIC OINTMENT IMMEDIATELY AFTER BURN INJURY AS THAT WILL CAUSE GREATER TISSUE DAMAGE.

This Saturday (26/10/13) is a Parent-Teacher meeting day.

Dear Parent,

This Saturday (26/10/13) is a Parent-Teacher meeting day. The meeting is scheduled from 9:30 to 11:30am. The Report Cards of the I Summative Assessment will be issued.

Now, with the commencement of the II Term, the school would focus on getting the children of Std I and above, prepared for all assessments only through the TEXT BOOK. 

Though the notes will be given to the pupils, all preparation for Class tests, Slip tests, Formative Assessments & II Summative Assessment need to be done from textbooks. 

It is imperative to inculcate the habit and seriousness of text book reading as any Public Exam paper will be prepared from textbooks only and not from any school based notebooks.

This further allows the child to understand the concepts rather than to rote learn /memorize word to word from notebooks/class works. Students will be trained on how to read/learn from the textbooks.

Pragathi Circular - Starting from November, 2013 the school will work full day for students of Grades III & above on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Saturdays of all the months - Regd

Dear Parent,

This is to inform you that starting from November, 2013 the school will work full day for students of Grades III & above on the 1^st, 3^rd and 5^th Saturdays of all the months. The 2^nd and 4^th Saturdays of all months will be holidays for students.

The purpose of this initiative is to inculcate Moral Values, Good habits & Life Skills among children with a very practical approach. Each working Saturday afternoon will be split into two slots with each slot spreading over an hour. There will be 1:15 ratio to make sure the sessions are seriously and effectively executed.

Slot – I - Moral Values and Good habits

Slot – II - Life Skills integrated with English language Skills & Public Speaking

All parents will be kept aware of the themes discussed. Further on, all parents are instructed to spend at least 10 to 15 minutes to discuss the same with the child.

Children will be taught a lot of Moral Values/ good habits and life skill activities which requires them to apply every single day. Parents need to follow-up on the same and in case the child isn’t applying, will have to report to the class teacher through a diary note so as to enable us counsel the child and ensure that the implementation is successful. It’s time the home and school together instil a foundation of values on which our children’s future lives will be built.

Note: No permissions, half-day leaves will be granted.
